emergency Vet ServiceA brief history about Pets 'N' Vets...

Pets 'N' Vets was started on the 1st May 1971 by George Leslie and one part-time receptionist. It was run as a single-handed veterinary practice in 1478 Pollokshaws Rd. with support from different locums and assistants. In 1978 the area of the surgery was doubled by taking over the adjacent shop at 1480 Pollokshaws Rd.

In 1987 a partnership was formed with Ivor Lough who had previously worked as an assistant, and the Branch Surgery - Crookfur Pet Health Centre - was opened in Newton Mearns.

Today Pets 'N' Vets has three full time and one part time veterinary surgeons, two qualified veterinary nurses, four trainee nurses and three receptionists.

The Veterinary Centre in Pollokshaws has now been expanded to cover the shops from 1478 to 1484 Pollokshaws Rd. enabling us to provide a wide range of facilities and increase the quality of service which we can offer to our clients and their pets.

Meet the vets at Pets 'N' Vets...

George LeslieGeorge Leslie (BVMS, MRCVS)

George Leslie founded the veterinary practice which became Pets 'N' Vets in 1971. His prime motivation has always been to help his clients to obtain themaximum enjoyment from their pets, and to ensure the highest possible standards of welfare for the pets which his clients bring to Pets 'N' Vets. George has several pets of his own – 5 Great Danes all descended from one family which he has owned since 1961 – half a dozen cats and a geriatric pony. Apart from the veterinary practice George runs boarding kennels for dogs and cats, is a trustee for the charity Canine Concern Scotland which promotes responsible dog ownership and runs Scotland’s Therapet Service.   He is a member of the Cross Party Group on Animal Welfare at the Scottish Parliament.

Ivor LoughIvor Lough (BVMS, MRCVS)

Ivor has been with the practice since 1977 and qualified from the University of Glasgow Vet School in 1982. He has spent his working life here except for a break of 2 years which were spent in Essex. Ivor was brought up round the corner from the surgery and his parents still live in the family home.

Ivor now lives in Eaglesham with his wife and 3 children. They have 2 Labradors - Saffi and Bundook, 3 cats and indeterminate hens, doves, quails, a rabbit, and a guinea pig.

Outside the practice Ivor promotes Glasgow Vet School in various ways. He is on the Admissions Committee for the Faculty helping at interviews for prospective students and is also on the Development Fund Comittee for the new small animal hospital. He attends career nights at local schools to explain how the profession works and what subject choices need to be made.

As partner he likes to see that the practice runs smoothly and that the priority is service to clients and the welfare of their pets in our care.

RossRoss Allan (BVMS, MRCVS)

Ross graduated from Glasgow University in 2001; he was presented with the award for "best small animal clinical student". He worked in mixed practice for 9 months in Aberdeenshire before joining us in March 2002. He lives in the local area and has a cat called Henry.

His professional interests are especially for surgery and dentistry; he is currently enrolled on the RCVS Certificate in surgery. He is also on the Scottish Committee of the BSAVA.

Outside of work Ross is keen on sports especially road cycling and badminton.
