Commitment to Veterinary Education

Pets'n'Vets has long been associated with the promotion of veterinary education in both school age and under graduate students. We encourage school pupils from the age of about 14 to help in the consulting room or learning animal management from the nurses for an evening or weekend session. This allows us to have 12 placements across both of our sites. This work experience is essential if the person wishes to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Anyone interested in this facility should either write to us with a telephone number or e-mail us on one of our addresses.

Ivor visits schools in the area to attend career conventions to explain what it is like to be a veterinary surgeon and give pointers on how best to gain admission into the faculty. He also helps on the Admissions Committee at the University of Glasgow Veterinary School (GVS) in the selection of candidates for entry onto the course.

Pets'n'Vets also has a long track record in the number of students from both home and overseas that come to see practice. This is a mandatory part of the under graduate course where students come and learn the practicalities of working in the real world.

Ross sits on the EMS (Extra Mural Studies) Steering Group at GVS who discuss the future of this very important part of the course.

We believe that learning at Pets'n'Vets should be both fulfilling and fun and that is proven by the number of students who come back repeatedly to us.

Students Jack and Jazz began their connection with the practice when they were in 4th year at school in the southside of Glasgow. They are both set to graduate from Glasgow University in June 2009.
