We are incredibly proud to announce that six of our amazing receptionists have completed a veterinary-specific receptionists’ course, rewarding them with a recognised Level 2 certificate from the College of Animal Welfare.

This was able to be carried out, following the launch Scotland’s first ever in-house Receptionist Academy for the veterinary sector last year, at the Pets’n’Vets Family.

The initiative was part of a structured in-house training and learning programme that included one-to-one mentorship and new idea sharing. It was further augmented by a series of continuous professional development presentations on a diverse range of vet reception related subjects including pet bereavement, advanced animal handling and mindfulness in practice.

Consulting Veterinary Nurse and Training Supervisor, Cheree Mayell, explained: “The Receptionist Academy had started with an induction process which included all sorts of innovative ways of learning, such as role playing, scenarios, and fact-finding.

“The learning development had many aspects to the course and these included the creation of posters and leaflets, along with a written examination and regular meetings. Although our receptionists had a sound understanding of veterinary reception – elements of this course offered a more advanced insight into the veterinary world.

“It is a brilliant achievement for each individual receptionist and we were delighted by the high level of team work displayed – it was this ongoing support and team spirit that allowed for such a successful outcome.

“There is no doubt that our Receptionist team worked so hard and did extremely well – we are all very proud of them.”

Head Receptionist, Dorothy O’Connor, completed the course at the end of last year and went on to receive the ‘Student of the Year’ certificate from the College.

She said: “I really enjoyed taking part and completing the course, especially with it being specific to veterinary reception. It is definitely something I now recommend as it creates a broader understanding of Veterinary reception and care as well as helps to bring in new ideas, pushing up further our already great standards.

“I was also delighted to receive the award for Student of the Year– working at the Pets‘n’Vets Family is something that I love, so to complete the course and be recognised in this way is great.”

Due to the fantastic success of last year’s training, the offer has been extended to other receptionists in the practice, with the practice’s next cohort beginning their course later this year.

Oliver Jackson, Managing Partner at the Pets‘n’Vets Family added: “It has always been our mission to ensure that each and every individual within all parts of our practice are given an opportunity for continual learning and professional development.

“The launch of our Receptionist Academy recognises the central role that receptionists play – it is a demanding role – and we hope that this initiative illustrates our commitment to exceptional client service and life-long learning.

“We always knew our receptionists were fantastic and it is great for them to have this official qualification to back that up.”
